An original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Take Me Out to the Snowland (1987), directed by Yasuo Baba and starring Tomoyo Harada and Hiroshi Mikami.

The first film from Hoichoi Productions, this romantic comedy became closely associated with Japan’s late-1980s skiing boom and the fashionable leisure culture of the bubble economy. Its snowy settings, youthful romance, and memorable use of Yumi Matsutoya’s winter songs helped establish it as a defining film of the period.

The illustrated artwork is by Kazuo Hozumi (穂積和夫). His original painting for this design has also been exhibited at Waseda University’s Theatre Museum, giving the poster an additional connection to Japan’s illustration and film-design history.

A large portrait of Tomoyo Harada, wearing white-framed sunglasses, a white hat, and a high-collared white ski jacket, anchors the composition. Around her, Hozumi assembles a lively montage of downhill action, chairlift encounters, snowy landscapes, and a white sports car. A smaller portrait shows Harada using a handheld radio, surrounded by the film’s colourful ski wear and winter equipment.

A decorated Christmas tree brings a festive touch, while the clearly rendered Rossignol skis, bright yellow boots, and oversized sunglasses capture the distinctive styling of the era. The pale blue snow scenes sit against a spacious cream background, allowing the detailed illustration to remain the focus.

Across the lower portion, the Japanese title rises diagonally in bold blue lettering, accompanied by the tagline:

「ゲレンデの恋人たちに贈る、とびきりキュートなラブ・ストーリー。」
“An especially charming love story for lovers on the slopes.”
