“Take the Money and Run” (泥棒野郎), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1971, Woody Allen, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) — T25

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for the 1971 Japanese first release of Take the Money and Run, released as 泥棒野郎 (Dorobō Yarō) and distributed by Shochiku Eihai. Its playful photographic collage combines an oversized portrait of Woody Allen with miniature criminals, policemen and speeding cars.

Originally released in 1969, the film was directed by Woody Allen, who also stars and co-wrote the screenplay with Mickey Rose. Presented as a mock documentary, it follows the life of hopeless criminal Virgil Starkwell, whose attempted robberies and prison escapes repeatedly descend into farce. Janet Margolin co-stars, with music by Marvin Hamlisch. 

The central portrait shows Allen holding his familiar black-framed glasses, with one arm of the spectacles resting against his mouth. Smaller figures and vehicles surround his face, while a second image of Allen in a yellow cardigan runs across the lower centre. The arrangement gives the design a sense of comic disorder, matching the film’s succession of failed schemes and frantic escapes.

Large, rough-edged red characters spell out the Japanese title across the bottom. The English title appears in orange at the upper right, balanced by curved blue promotional lettering on the left. The Japanese campaign’s comparison with silent-screen comedy is explicit in the phrase 「チャップリンも脱帽！」—“Even Chaplin takes his hat off!”

A lively example of Japanese comedy-film advertising, with particular appeal to collectors of Woody Allen’s early films, classic screen comedy and 1970s poster design.
