This is an original Japanese STB tatekan theatrical poster for the 1966 Japanese release of Seven Golden Men, originally titled 7 uomini d’oro and released in Japan as Ōgon no Shichinin. Sixty years old, this complete two-sheet example combines glamorous star imagery, elaborate heist scenes, and striking teal and red typography.
Directed by Marco Vicario, the film stars Rossana Podestà and Philippe Leroy, supported by Gastone Moschin, Maurice Poli, and Gabriele Tinti. Leroy’s criminal mastermind, known as “the Professor,” plans an audacious raid on a Swiss bank with his accomplices and Podestà’s enigmatic Giorgia. Specialised equipment, meticulous preparations, and double-crosses shape the caper, accompanied by Armando Trovajoli’s distinctive score.
Printed on two sheets arranged vertically, the design makes inventive use of the tall tatekan format. The upper section is dominated by Leroy looking through an optical device fitted with a prominent aerial. Smaller scenes introduce surveillance equipment and members of the crew wearing breathing apparatus beside a cart piled with gold. A sprawling arrangement of bullion carries the composition across the central join.
The lower section centres on Podestà in a black lace catsuit, her full-length figure extending towards the bottom of the poster. The oversized Japanese title 「黄金の七人」 runs down the left, predominantly in deep teal, with the character 「七」—“seven”—picked out in vivid red. Small vignettes of men in orange overalls, vehicles, a roadworks sign, and colourful balloons add a playful counterpoint. The Italian title “7 UOMINI D’ORO” and TOWA distributor logo complete the design.
The prominent blue tagline reads:
「ヨーロッパ映画界が007に対抗して放つ超大型アクション！」
“An action spectacular from European cinema to rival 007!”
This explicit comparison with James Bond places the poster within the international appetite for gadgets, glamour, and ingenious criminal adventures. Its combination of bold typography, fashion imagery, and miniature heist scenes makes it an especially appealing example for collectors of Rossana Podestà, Philippe Leroy, European caper films, and Japanese film poster design of the 1960s.
