This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese cinema release of Wim Wenders’ celebrated music documentary Buena Vista Social Club. This title first opened theatrically in Japan on 15 January 2000.
Directed by Wim Wenders and centred around the legendary Cuban musicians brought back into the spotlight through the Buena Vista Social Club project, the film captures the spirit of Havana and the musicians’ extraordinary late-life renaissance—moving from intimate moments in Cuba to major international performances.
Poster design
A superb, design-forward composition: the bold green title block with star motifs and top billing (Ry Cooder, Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Omara Portuondo, Compay Segundo, and more) sits above a sunlit Havana street photograph—an iconic, nostalgic image that perfectly matches the film’s tone.
