“The Holy Mountain” (ホーリー・マウンテン), Original Japanese Theatrical Poster — Japan First Release 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O248
This is an original and very scarce Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the first Japanese release of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain. A genuine cinema display sheet produced for theatres in Japan.
Film background
Jodorowsky’s 1973 surrealist opus—produced by ABKCO’s Allen Klein and famously backed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono—pursues an alchemical pilgrimage of power, ego, and transcendence through visionary tableaux. A cult landmark that followed the underground sensation El Topo.
Poster design
Vivid, psychedelic collage unique to the Japanese campaign: a halftone, triangular portrait of Jodorowsky fronts a snow-capped peak; neon gradients, emerald marbling, and inset circular stills orbit the central image. Bold katakana masthead 「ホーリー・マウンテン」 spans a magenta banner, with the hand-lettered English title along the base—ecstatic, mystical, and pure late-’80s revival style.
