“The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter” (ローリング・ストーンズ/ギミー・シェルター), 1970 Japanese STB Tatekan Poster (Two‑Panel Set), STB Size (c. 51 × 145 cm) P79

Sale price $600.00

This is an original Japanese STB tatekan (two‑panel standing) poster issued in Japan for the legendary rock documentary The Rolling Stones: Gimme Shelter. Presented in the dramatic STB format (two B2 sheets designed to display together as a tall vertical), it’s one of the most visually striking pieces of Rolling Stones film ephemera—combining bold English title typography, explosive concert imagery, and huge Japanese lettering into a powerful, wall‑dominating display. The lower panel also carries the 20th Century‑Fox / Fox映画 branding (as printed), grounding it firmly as a vintage Japanese theatrical issue.

Film background
Gimme Shelter is widely regarded as one of the most essential music documentaries ever made—capturing the band on the road at the end of the 1960s and building toward the infamous Altamont concert, a flashpoint moment often cited as the dark “end of an era.” Shot with an immediacy that feels observational and unfiltered, the film blends performance energy with behind‑the‑scenes tension, turning a tour record into a haunting cultural document.

Poster design
A masterclass in Japanese theatrical impact: the top panel is dominated by the English title “The Rolling Stones / Gimme Shelter” in large, clean lettering against a deep night‑blue field, set over a high‑contrast stage photograph with vivid light bursts and floating lens flares that feel almost psychedelic. The bottom panel shifts to an assertive graphic layout—huge vertical red Japanese typography (“ローリング・ストーンズ” / “ギミー・シェルター”) running down the white field, paired with dense Japanese copy and a small inset crowd image, creating that unmistakable Japanese “information + design” balance. Displayed together, the two panels read like a single towering composition: part concert electricity, part bold typographic poster art.

Rarity and condition
Japanese STB tatekan posters were produced in far smaller quantities than standard one‑sheets and were meant for theatrical display—so complete surviving two‑panel sets are considerably harder to find today, especially for major music‑culture titles like this. Condition is very good / excellent overall. Please inspect the photos carefully as they show the exact poster for sale.
