“Total Recall” (トータル・リコール), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1990, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) T252

Sale price $118.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced for the 1990 first theatrical release of Total Recall, directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Released in Japan on 1 December 1990, the film combines explosive science-fiction action with a disturbing mystery about memory, identity, and manufactured reality.

Film background
Inspired by Philip K. Dick’s short story We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, the film follows construction worker Douglas Quaid, whose dreams of Mars lead him to Rekall, a company offering implanted holiday memories. When the procedure goes wrong, his familiar life collapses into violence and conspiracy, sending him towards a Martian colony where even his own identity is uncertain.

With supporting performances from Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, Michael Ironside, and Ronny Cox, the film pairs Schwarzenegger’s physical presence with Verhoeven’s dark humour, elaborate practical effects, and unsettling ambiguity.

Poster design
An enormous, tightly cropped portrait of Schwarzenegger dominates the right side, rendered in electric cyan, blue, and violet. His intensely focused eye emerges from deep shadows, while the left side dissolves into a black, star-filled background.

Across the top, SCHWARZENEGGER appears in tall, angular lettering, echoed by the smaller English TOTAL RECALL title below. The Japanese headline 「見たこともない!」 promises something audiences have never seen before.

Near the bottom, a glowing red, orange, and yellow triangular peak, accompanied by two small planetary spheres, introduces a vivid contrast to the cool portrait. The large, slanted white 「トータル・リコール」 title anchors the composition. It is a striking design that captures both the film’s cosmic scale and its central question of who Quaid really is.

Condition
Excellent. Light handling creases and surface undulations are visible, particularly on the reverse. The front retains strong colour and contrast, with the portrait and typography presenting beautifully.
