This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 2002 Japanese release of Trouble Every Day, Claire Denis’s unsettling 2001 psychological horror drama starring Vincent Gallo and Béatrice Dalle.
Released in Japan under the title Gargoyle / 「ガーゴイル」, the film combines erotic obsession, physical horror, and profound emotional isolation within the restrained visual language of French arthouse cinema.
Film background
American doctor Shane Brown travels to Paris with his new wife, June, ostensibly for their honeymoon. Behind his affectionate exterior, however, Shane is struggling with a violent pathological compulsion connected to physical intimacy.
He searches for former colleague Léo Semeneau, whose earlier medical research may explain his condition. Léo has withdrawn from public life to care for his wife, Coré, who suffers from the same uncontrollable urges and is secretly confined inside their home.
As Shane moves through Paris, the lives of the two afflicted characters begin to echo one another. The film treats their behaviour not simply as horror, but as an expression of loneliness, bodily alienation, and the destructive limits of desire.
The film was directed by Claire Denis, from a screenplay written with Jean-Pol Fargeau. Its haunting original score was composed and performed by Tindersticks.

Trouble Every Day became an important work within the early-2000s movement later associated with French New Extremity, while remaining unmistakably part of Denis’s wider exploration of intimacy, identity, and estrangement.
Poster design
