Sale price $150.00 Regular price $180.00
On Sale

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the release of True Grit, the 1969 western directed by Henry Hathaway and starring John Wayne, Kim Darby and Glen Campbell. Wayne’s portrayal of one‑eyed U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn earned him his only Academy Award for Best Actor.

Film background
The story follows 14‑year‑old Mattie Ross as she hires the hard‑drinking, rough‑edged Cogburn to track down the man who murdered her father. Joined by Texas Ranger La Boeuf, they pursue the killer into dangerous Indian Territory, confronting outlaws, winter weather and harsh moral choices. Mixing wry humour with traditional western adventure, the film became a staple of the genre and later inspired the Coen brothers’ 2010 reinterpretation.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 centres John Wayne’s star persona. A huge portrait of Rooster Cogburn, complete with eyepatch and weathered expression, dominates the right half of the sheet. In front of him, two smaller full‑figure images show Glen Campbell and another armed character striding forward, guns drawn. Along the bottom, a posse of riders charges across a riverbank. The Japanese title “勇気ある追跡” (“Courageous Pursuit”) roars across the lower section in large red brush‑strokes, with the English “TRUE GRIT” tucked modestly to one side. Vertical red copy on the right underscores the story’s theme of a young girl’s bravery inspiring grown men to action.
