“Urusei Yatsura” (うる星やつら), Original Release Japanese Promotional Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P178

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1981 for the first cinema release in the Urusei Yatsura (うる星やつら) film series—based on Rumiko Takahashi’s iconic manga and one of the most defining pop-cultural anime properties of the early 1980s. Classic Shōwa-era anime paper, featuring the franchise at peak popularity.

Film background
By 1981, Urusei Yatsura had already become a phenomenon—an anarchic mix of sci-fi comedy, romantic chaos, and teen absurdity centred around the alien heroine Lum and her perpetually overwhelmed human love interest. The theatrical films expanded the series with larger-scale set pieces and premium artwork, and original B2s from this period remain highly sought-after by collectors.

Poster design
A gorgeous, unmistakably early-’80s romantic-comedy composition: a large central heroine in a red dress with a white rose hairpiece dominates the sheet against a soft pink rose backdrop, while Lum appears in her tiger-striped bikini, literally pulling Ataru away in classic slapstick fashion. Clean linework, saturated colour, and a dreamy floral palette make this an exceptionally frame-friendly B2—equal parts cute, glamorous, and instantly recognisable.
