This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1971 for the first domestic theatrical release of Valdez Is Coming (追撃のバラード), directed by Edwin Sherin and released in Japan by United Artists. First-issue Japanese posters for this Burt Lancaster revenge western are sought after by collectors.

Film background
After a wrongful killing pushed by a ruthless land baron, aging town constable Bob Valdez (Burt Lancaster) asks for compensation for the victim’s widow and is brutally humiliated. Donning his old cavalry gear and taking up his Sharps rifle, Valdez methodically hunts the men responsible across the desert—an austere, character-driven tale of justice and reckoning adapted from Elmore Leonard’s novel.

Poster design
A superb, high-impact country sheet: a giant back-lit silhouette of Valdez straddles the orange desert sky, a starburst of sun flaring at his chest while he grips shotgun and rifle. The lower register shows a butte-studded landscape with riders in pursuit, a shattered wagon wheel and grave-crosses at left, and a pistol-wielding inset of Lancaster at bottom. English billing (“BURT LANCASTER ‘VALDEZ IS COMING’”) floats at center, while the bold scarlet Japanese logotype 「追撃のバラード」 anchors the base. Distributor credit and the Eirin mark along the footer are classic hallmarks of a first-release sheet with commanding wall presence.
