This is an original Japanese B3 poster printed in 1973 for the nationwide re-release of King Vidor’s epic adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace (1956), starring Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Mel Ferrer. The reissue brought the sweeping romance and Napoleonic-war spectacle back to theatres for a new audience.
Design
A rich crimson field frames a luminous close-up of Audrey Hepburn as Natasha, her hooded gaze anchoring the composition. Along the base, cavalry and infantry clash in a panoramic battlefield tableau, while a ballroom vignette at right nods to the film’s grand society scenes. The bold white-to-red brushed logotype 「戦争と平和」 spans the width—classic 1970s Japanese re-release styling.
