“Zabriskie Point” (砂丘), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1970, First Japanese Release, STB Tatekan Size (c. 51 × 145 cm) O146 A

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese STB tatekan poster printed in 1970 for the first domestic theatrical release of Zabriskie Point (砂丘), directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and released in Japan by MGM. The almost five-foot-tall STB format was printed in far lower numbers than standard B2s; examples for major international titles are genuinely scarce and highly sought after by collectors today.

Film background
Antonioni’s counterculture panorama follows student radical Mark (Mark Frechette) and free-spirited Daria (Daria Halprin) as they drift from urban unrest to the stark expanses of Death Valley. Noted for its Pink Floyd soundtrack, sensual desert interludes, and explosive finale, the film has grown from box-office curiosity to cult object—an essential artifact of late-1960s/early-1970s cinema.

Poster design
A striking vertical composition tailored to the tatekan: at top, the star-spangled slab type ZABRISKIE POINT sits beneath “ANTONIONI’S,” with small cast stills. The immense sand-rock field fills the sheet like an abstract canvas, broken only by elegant teal copy lines and the bold brush title 「砂丘」. At the base, a sun-washed photograph shows Mark and Daria nude on the dunes. The Eirin rating seal appears at lower left—classic hallmarks of an authentic first-release country sheet with superb wall presence.
