“True Romance” (トゥルー・ロマンス), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1994, Very Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O668

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of True Romance (1993), Tony Scott’s cult crime-romance—written by Quentin Tarantino and starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette, with an extraordinary supporting cast including Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, James Gandolfini, and Samuel L. Jackson. A neon-lit collision of lovers-on-the-run romance and hyper-stylised violence, the film has become one of the most beloved cult titles of the 1990s—especially prized by Tarantino fans as the purest early expression of his dialogue, character energy, and pop-culture mythmaking.

Poster design
A striking, minimalist Japanese campaign that leans into mood and obsession rather than montage clutter. The sheet balances three key elements: a small intimate still of the couple at top left (cool, romantic, and slightly dangerous), a large blocky typographic header TRUE ROMANCE / トゥルー・ロマンス anchoring the film as a branded object, and the main image—an atmospheric, backlit figure holding a gun in a haze of light and smoke, capturing the film’s eroticised danger and dreamlike intensity. The Japanese tagline reads 「どう猛な愛だけが生き残る。」 (“Only a savage love survives.”), while the vertical copy at left—「君は、『あなたって、サイコーにクール!』にピーチの味がする。」—adds that distinctly Japanese marketing poetry, turning the film into a stylised romance as much as a crime story. An exceptionally displayable 1990s Japanese one-sheet with a clean, design-forward layout.

Cult status / Japanese rarity
Original Japanese posters for True Romance are not easy to source in Japan compared with mainstream Hollywood blockbusters of the period—particularly in excellent condition—because the film’s strongest collector demand has grown steadily over time as its cult reputation has intensified. This title sits at the crossroads of Tony Scott style, Tarantino authorship, and an all-time supporting cast—making original Japanese release material increasingly desirable internationally.
