“Eastern Promises”, Original Japanese DVD-Release Poster 2008, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N81

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 2008 to promote the DVD release (11.14) of Eastern Promises (Japanese title: イースタン・プロミス).

Film background
Directed by David Cronenberg, the 2007 crime thriller stars Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, and Vincent Cassel. Set in London’s underworld, it follows a midwife who uncovers the secrets of the Russian mafia. Mortensen received a 2008 Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Poster design
A moody, amber-lit montage pairs close portraits of Mortensen and Watts with the famous image of tattooed knuckles—pure Cronenberg menace. The gold laurel at top right reads “2008年 アカデミー賞 主演男優賞 ノミネート” (Academy Award Best Actor nominee, 2008). At lower left the round bug announces “11.14 DVD RELEASE.”

Tagline translation (vertical line):
