Original Japanese Doris Day Movie Posters

Doris Day (1922–2019) was one of the most celebrated actresses and singers of Hollywood’s Golden Age, renowned for her distinctive screen presence, remarkable versatility, and enduring contribution to American cinema. Rising to prominence in the late 1940s, she became one of Hollywood’s leading box-office stars throughout the 1950s and 1960s, appearing in some of the era’s most beloved musicals, romantic comedies, and dramatic productions.

Her celebrated filmography includes Calamity Jane (1953), Alfred Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Teacher’s Pet (1958), Pillow Talk (1959), Lover Come Back (1961), and That Touch of Mink (1962). Her collaborations with leading actors including Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, James Stewart, and Clark Gable helped define an important period of Hollywood entertainment.

Japan Poster Shop’s collection of original Japanese Doris Day movie posters features theatrical material from her celebrated career, including original Japanese releases of The Man Who Knew Too Much, Teacher’s Pet, That Touch of Mink, and Calamity Jane.

Japanese theatrical posters from the 1950s and 1960s are particularly admired for their distinctive graphic design, elegant portrait photography, colourful illustrations, and bold Japanese typography. Frequently differing from their American counterparts, these original Japanese designs provide a fascinating record of how Hollywood’s most recognisable stars were presented to Japanese cinema audiences.

Of particular interest are original Japanese first-release posters, surviving examples of which are increasingly difficult to obtain, especially in excellent condition. Printed for theatrical exhibition rather than long-term preservation, these posters represent important historical artefacts from Hollywood’s Golden Age and Japan’s postwar cinema culture.

Our Doris Day collection includes original Japanese B2 theatrical posters and other period promotional material, offering collectors an opportunity to acquire authentic Japanese cinema ephemera associated with one of the twentieth century’s most enduring screen personalities.

Each poster is individually catalogued with attention to its original release, condition, format, and historical significance.
