“Godzilla” (ゴジラ), Original Japanese “The King of Monsters” Promotional Poster 1970s, Size (c. 59 × 83 cm) ZA1280

An original Japanese promotional poster bringing together seven monsters from Toho’s Shōwa-era Godzilla films. Godzilla and Mechagodzilla tower over a burning industrial city, with five more creatures filling the sky and the narrow strip of ground beneath their feet.

In Very Good condition for its age. The central battle scene retains strong colour and detail, with wear most noticeable along the top edge and at the upper-right corner.

Film background

The poster brings together rivals from several films. In Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972), Godzilla and Anguirus fight side by side against Gigan and King Ghidorah. Two years later, Toho marked Godzilla’s twentieth anniversary with Jun Fukuda’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, introducing the silver mechanical double that faces Godzilla across this sheet.

Poster design

Godzilla breathes a red-orange beam towards Mechagodzilla, whose riveted armour catches the light as twin bands of blue and violet shoot from its eyes. Above them, King Ghidorah spreads its wings over Mothra at the left, while Rodan glides in from the right. In the foreground, the spiked back of Anguirus cuts across the burning storage tanks, with the hook-armed Gigan just behind.

At the foot of the poster, THE KING OF MONSTERS appears in small black type beside GODZILLA, printed in cracked yellow capitals with a red outline. The lower-right corner carries the copyright credit © 東宝、東宝映像 (Toho and Toho Eizo).

Condition

Very Good overall for its age. Creasing and rubbing at the upper-right corner. Scattered scuffs and handling creases are visible in the sky around Rodan. The reverse shows age toning and brown spotting, heaviest along the upper edge. Please review the front, reverse and corner-detail photographs for the full condition.
