“Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II”, Original Release Japanese Soundtrack Promotional Poster 1993, Artwork by Noriyoshi Ohrai, Extremely Rare, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O381

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1993 for the Toshiba EMI release of the Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II original soundtrack. This poster rarely surfaces on the market.

Created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Godzilla franchise, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II marked a pivotal moment in the Heisei era with the revamped Mechagodzilla and the introduction of Baby Godzilla. Toho commissioned the legendary illustrator Noriyoshi Ohrai, famed for his international poster for The Empire Strikes Back, to bring his visionary style to the promotional artwork used across the film and record campaign.

Ohrai’s dynamic composition captures the explosive confrontation between Godzilla, the mechanised Mechagodzilla, the fiery Rodan, and the futuristic Garuda aircraft. The artist’s technique—fine‑tuned over decades of painting book covers, magazine illustrations, and epic movie posters—adds dramatic depth and intensity to the scene.

According to a detailed exhibition report from Film on Paper, the printed poster appears noticeably darker than Ohrai’s original painting—an artifact of the printing process, as noted by the exhibition curator Tatsuya Ishida.

The B2 format was produced in limited quantities for record shops and select theatres in Japan. It was issued for the original 1993 campaign (with TOSHIBA EMI credit line and soundtrack catalogue numbers TYCY‑5342~3 / TYCY‑5364 in the lower border, plus the Godzilla 40th Anniversary roundel).

It is over 31 years old!
