Explore Japan Poster Shop’s extensive collection of original Japanese science fiction movie posters, featuring rare and highly collectible theatrical artwork from some of the most influential films in cinema history.
Spanning more than seven decades of filmmaking, our collection celebrates the extraordinary visual imagination of science-fiction cinema, from early space exploration and alien encounters to dystopian futures, artificial intelligence, cyberpunk and epic intergalactic adventures.
Of particular significance is our exceptional selection of original Japanese Star Wars posters, including rare first-release theatrical designs, advance promotional material and extraordinarily scarce large-format advertising posters. The original Japanese campaigns for Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983) produced some of the most distinctive and sought-after science-fiction poster artwork ever created, including celebrated illustrations by Japanese artists such as Noriyoshi Ohrai.
Our collection also encompasses original Japanese posters for landmark science-fiction films including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Alien, The Terminator, The Matrix, Metropolis and many other classics, alongside Japanese productions and influential anime such as Akira (1988), Ghost in the Shell (1995) and the extraordinary tradition of Japanese science-fiction animation.
Japanese theatrical poster campaigns are particularly admired for their dramatic compositions, original illustrations, distinctive typography and alternative artwork, frequently presenting internationally celebrated films through a uniquely Japanese visual perspective.
Our extensive holdings include original B2 and B1 theatrical posters, exceptionally rare STB Tatekan formats, large-format B0 billboards, advance promotional designs, unused examples and scarce first-release variants. Many of these posters survive in limited numbers, with early theatrical examples and unusual large-format designs particularly prized by collectors.
Every poster offered by Japan Poster Shop is an authentic original, carefully sourced in Japan and individually catalogued. We do not sell reproductions. All posters are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, with worldwide DHL Express shipping available from our gallery in Tokyo.
