“The Alamo” (アラモ), Original Japanese Re-release Movie Poster 1967, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA53

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the 1967 theatrical re-release of The Alamo (1960), the grand-scale American historical epic produced, directed by, and starring John Wayne, with major performances by Richard Widmark and Laurence Harvey. A showcase of widescreen spectacle and old-school Hollywood bravura, the film dramatizes the legendary 1836 siege of the Alamo—an emblematic tale of defiance and sacrifice staged with massive battle sequences, period detail, and a cast-of-thousands sense of scale. Japanese re-release posters from the 1960s like this were designed to sell the event nature of the picture—bigger, louder, and more heroic than ever.

Poster design

A classic “three faces + battlefield” composition that feels quintessentially 1960s: three monumental close-up portraits dominate the top, arranged like a triptych—Wayne, Widmark, and Harvey—each lit and framed to telegraph character and tension. The bold Japanese title 「アラモ」 slices across the centre in huge black brush-style lettering, with a small “70” style mark above that reads like a theatrical-event emblem. Below, the sheet erupts into a sweeping, chaotic battle tableau—soldiers surging, smoke and fire, and cavalry movement—capturing the film’s scale in a single dramatic vignette. The overall design is extremely frame-friendly: strong faces, bold typography, and a cinematic action base—an ideal display piece for collectors of classic Hollywood epics and John Wayne material.
