"The Poseidon Adventure" Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) E160

Sale price $100.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1972 for the first release of The Poseidon Adventure, one of the defining disaster films of its era.

Directed by Ronald Neame and produced by Irwin Allen, the film tells the story of a luxury ocean liner overturned by a massive tidal wave on New Year’s Eve. A small group of survivors, led by Gene Hackman’s Reverend Scott, must navigate the inverted wreckage in a desperate struggle for survival. The ensemble cast also includes Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Roddy McDowall, and Stella Stevens.

The Poseidon Adventure became a box-office hit and critical success, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song (“The Morning After”) and receiving a Special Achievement Academy Award for Visual Effects. It remains a landmark of the 1970s disaster genre and set the stage for Irwin Allen’s later productions.

Design
The Japanese poster captures the chaos and spectacle with dramatic collaged imagery: panicked passengers scrambling as water and fire overwhelm the ship, framed by the bold red Japanese title 「ポセイドン・アドベンチャー」. The composition emphasizes the scale of disaster and human fear, echoing the film’s central themes of catastrophe and resilience.

It is over 53 years old!
