The Chairman (Japanese title: ゼロの決死圏) is a 1969 Cold War-era spy thriller directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Gregory Peck, Anne Heywood, and Conrad Yama. The film follows American scientist Dr. John Hathaway (played by Peck), who is recruited by U.S. intelligence to infiltrate Communist China and obtain a secret agricultural enzyme formula that could end world hunger — but also potentially destabilize global power. With a transmitter surgically implanted in his skull (which doubles as a bomb), Hathaway must navigate a deadly mission behind enemy lines.
