“Go Fish” (GO fish / ゴー・フィッシュ), Original Japanese Square Release Poster 1995, 51.5 × 51.5 cm ZA517

Sale price $130.00

This is an original Japanese square theatrical poster (approx. 515 × 515 mm) produced by UPLINK for the 1995 Japanese release of Go Fish, Rose Troche’s landmark 1994 indie about lesbian life and love in Chicago. Co‑written by and starring Guinevere Turner alongside V.S. Brodie, the film became a breakout hit of the New Queer Cinema movement after its Sundance premiere and went on to win the Teddy Award for Best Feature at the Berlin International Film Festival, helping to prove the commercial viability of queer women’s stories in the mid‑1990s.

Design
This rare square-format Japanese poster trades the more austere U.S. key art for a playful, zine‑like collage look. A duotone photograph of Max and Ely, noses almost touching, anchors the centre, surrounded by a sea‑green field framed in hot‑pink squiggles and spiral doodles that echo the film’s DIY, low‑budget energy. Hand‑drawn lettering spells out “GO fish” and “Girl meets Girl,” with English and Japanese credits arcing around the image in a loose, handwritten spiral, capturing the casual intimacy and community vibe of 1990s lesbian indie culture. The UPLINK logo appears beneath the main credits, but neither the poster nor available reference sources credit a specific illustrator or designer; after research, the artwork appears to be an in‑house graphic design created for the Japanese release rather than a signed artist piece.

Condition
Excellent. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale. Colours remain bright and saturated, and the square sheet displays beautifully.
