“A Nightmare on Elm Street” (エルム街の悪夢), Original Japanese Movie Poster 1984 First Release, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O183
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1984 for the first domestic theatrical release of A Nightmare on Elm Street (USA, 1984), directed by Wes Craven and starring Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, and Johnny Depp in his film debut. First-issue Japanese sheets for 1980s horror milestones are highly collectible.
Film background
In the quiet suburb of Springwood, teenagers are hunted in their sleep by scarred child-killer Freddy Krueger, whose murders in dreams prove fatal in the real world. Craven’s ingenious premise, surreal set-pieces, and Englund’s iconic performance revitalized American horror and launched a long-running franchise.
Poster design
A frenetic, neon-noir montage: the bathtub nightmare crowns the sheet while a stark black-and-white portrait of Freddy looms at left, his bladed glove thrust forward. Vector gridlines and prismatic light trails slash through torn-edge stills (flaming bed, church facade, stalking silhouette). The towering red brush logotype 「エルム街の悪夢」 bisects the design; the English header NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET stretches across the top. The Herald distributor credit and Japanese billing at the base are classic hallmarks of an authentic 1984 theatrical country sheet with electric wall presence.
