"Airport ’77" (エアポート’77), Original First-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1977, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N14
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1977 for the first theatrical release of Airport ’77, the third entry in Universal’s Airport disaster series.
Directed by Jerry Jameson, the film stars Jack Lemmon, James Stewart, Lee Grant, Brenda Vaccaro, Christopher Lee, and George Kennedy. The plot centers on a luxurious Boeing 747 carrying priceless art treasures and wealthy passengers that crashes into the ocean and sinks into the Bermuda Triangle. The survivors must be rescued before their oxygen runs out—an underwater suspense twist that gave the film a fresh take on the airborne disaster genre.
The Japanese poster artwork is spectacular: the massive jumbo jet lies eerily submerged beneath the waves, nose lodged in an ocean trench, as passengers and rescuers face a desperate struggle. Taglines across the top declare:
「避けられるか?謎のミサイルが、コンコルドを狙った!」
“From the sky to the cursed depths of the ocean—the giant jet vanishes into the Bermuda Triangle in an instant! Can the passengers survive? Can they escape?”
The film was a box-office hit and nominated for two Academy Awards®, including Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
It is over 47 years old!
