About the film

Akira (1988) is Katsuhiro Otomo’s epoch‑defining post‑apocalyptic, cyberpunk landmark—produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō, co‑written with Izo Hashimoto, and based on Otomo’s own manga (begun in 1982). Its world‑building, animation craft, and vision of Neo‑Tokyo reshaped anime and global pop culture.
