"Akira" (アキラ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O729

Sale price $600.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the Japanese release campaign of Akira (アキラ), Katsuhiro Otomo’s genre-defining cyberpunk landmark. One of the most influential animated films ever made, Akira fused dystopian political anxiety, body-horror transformation, and monumental city-scale spectacle—helping ignite global interest in Japanese animation and setting a new benchmark for cinematic anime.

Design
An iconic early campaign design built around pure “Neo-Tokyo” attitude: Kaneda stands front and centre in his red jacket, gripping the weapon, framed against a dense industrial cityscape of pipes and towers. Above, a strip of inset scenes and character moments adds narrative tension, while the bold Japanese tagline along the bottom—「ネオ東京にシグナル、感知!」—locks the poster into its late-1980s release-era identity. The massive red アキラ title slams across the lower centre over the black AKIRA block lettering, creating that unmistakable, instantly recognisable wall impact collectors chase.

Condition
A superb example in excellent / close to near mint condition with strong colour, clean borders, and an outstanding overall presentation. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
