Sale price $500.00

This is an original Dutch‑language poster printed c.1990 for the first theatrical release of Akira in the Netherlands.

Akira (Japanese: アキラ) is a 1988 Japanese animated post‑apocalyptic cyber‑punk action film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō, and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto. Adapted from Otomo’s 1982 manga of the same name, the film follows teenage biker Kaneda as he becomes embroiled in a government conspiracy involving his childhood friend Tetsuo and a mysterious psychic force known as “Akira.” Acclaimed for its ground‑breaking animation and mature narrative, Akira introduced Western audiences to the full potential of anime and remains a landmark of the genre.

This poster was issued by Meteor Film / Film Freak Productions BV for cinemas across the Benelux region. The dynamic design features Kaneda standing defiantly with his laser rifle against the sprawling industrial backdrop of Neo‑Tokyo, anchored by the bold red AKIRA title—an instantly recognisable image that has become iconic in global pop culture.
