This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1959 for Norman Z. McLeod’s slapstick Western comedy Alias Jesse James, starring Bob Hope, Rhonda Fleming, and Wendell Corey. A timid insurance salesman blunders into outlaw territory—prime Hope farce backed by a parade of Western in-jokes and cameos.
Design
High-contrast, comic-book impact: a huge masked outlaw face (Hope) fills the black central field beneath an outsized cowboy hat, the bright yellow kanji masthead 「腰抜け列車強盗」 slashing across the mask. At lower right, Hope crouches with a six-shooter; at left, Rhonda Fleming appears in a sparkling stage gown. “ALIAS JESSE JAMES” sits in green type to the right, with United Artists credits and “Deluxe Color” callouts—an eye-catching Japan-market layout.
