Japanese Poster Size Guide — B2, B1, STB, B0 & larger formats

An original Japanese B2 poster for Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, issued by Toho for the summer 1987 theatrical revival. Alice rests her cheek in one hand as she drifts across a pool of her own tears in a blue glass bottle. Her quiet expression makes a lovely contrast with the commotion of Wonderland around her.

In excellent condition, with vivid colours and light wear at the edges. The turquoise bottle and bright pink lettering stand out beautifully against the deep plum background and will display particularly well framed.

Film background

First released in 1951, Disney’s animated adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s story follows Alice down a rabbit hole in pursuit of the White Rabbit. She joins the Mad Hatter and March Hare for an unbirthday tea party before finding herself on the Queen of Hearts’ croquet lawn, with a flamingo for a mallet. Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske directed the film.

Alice in Wonderland first reached Japanese cinemas in 1953. For the revival that opened on 18 July 1987, Alice shared a bill with Cinderella. A small wooden sign at the lower right of the poster reads 日本語版, identifying the Japanese-language presentation.

Poster design

An ornate pink-and-cream frame surrounds the bottle, with the Cheshire Cat perched on its rim. Just beyond him, a second, tiny Alice stands in a hedge maze among ranks of playing-card soldiers. Outside the frame, the Mad Hatter and March Hare balance on an oversized spoon, while the Queen of Hearts looms over her rose garden.

The sweeping pink Japanese title echoes the curves of the frame, with the Walt Disney signature tucked beneath the lettering. Across the top, an orange headline welcomes Alice back to cinemas.

「輝やく映像すてきな冒険 ディズニーのあのアリスが帰ってきた。」
“Dazzling images, a wonderful adventure. Disney’s Alice is back.”

Condition

Excellent overall. Light rubbing is visible in places along the outer edges. The printed design shows faintly through the paper on the reverse, where there is a small brown spot towards the lower right. The central artwork retains crisp detail and rich colour. Please review the photographs of the front and reverse for the full condition.
