“Alien” (エイリアン), Rare Original Japanese B1 Movie Poster 1979, B1 Size (c. 72 × 103 cm)

This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster for Alien (1979), Ridley Scott’s genre-defining sci-fi horror masterpiece starring Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley. A landmark of modern cinema, Alien fused haunted-house suspense with industrial, future-noir design—introducing H.R. Giger’s biomechanical nightmare to the world and reshaping science-fiction filmmaking for decades to come.

Design
This is the iconic “egg” key art: an ominous, cratered egg floats in a deep black void, split by a glowing fissure that leaks an eerie green light—minimal, elegant, and profoundly unsettling. The lower section expands into a nightmarish field of forms beneath the horizon line, while the Japanese title エイリアン anchors the sheet with bold theatrical presence. It’s one of the greatest pieces of late-’70s movie-poster graphic design—pure atmosphere, maximum dread, and instantly recognisable from across a room.

Rarity
Japanese B1 posters were printed in far smaller quantities than standard B2s, making survivors significantly harder to find—especially for a title as globally collected as Alien. This design is a true centrepiece image, and B1 examples are rarely offered, particularly with strong display impact.

Condition
Good overall, with condition clearly reflected in our pricing. There is a tear that has been stabilised on the reverse with specialist archival tape (see photos of the verso). Once framed and mounted, the poster will display excellently.
