"All About Lily Chou-Chou", Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2001, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) N125

Sale price $485.00

This is an original first-release Japanese B2 poster printed in 2001 for the theatrical release of All About Lily Chou-Chou / リリイ・シュシュのすべて, written and directed by Shunji Iwai.

This poster is 100% original. Please note that both official 2024 reproductions and unofficial reproductions of this design exist and are sometimes incorrectly sold as originals. This example is the original 2001 theatrical release poster, not a later reprint.

Iwai’s modern classic follows a group of junior-high students whose obsessions, bullying, trauma, and online fandom orbit the ethereal fictional pop singer Lily Chou-Chou. Shot on early digital video and featuring music by Takeshi Kobayashi with vocals by Salyu, the film became a defining work of early-2000s Japanese cinema and marked early screen roles for Hayato Ichihara, Shugo Oshinari, and Yu Aoi.

The poster presents a haunting, minimalist design: a lone figure stands beneath a vast pale blue sky, a lattice communication tower rises at the left, and red kite-like gliders drift across the ether. The central “C†” motif has become one of the film’s most recognisable visual symbols, combining the fictional pop-star identity of Lily Chou-Chou with the film’s themes of devotion, alienation, and digital escape.

The vertical Japanese tagline at the lower right reads:

「十四歳の、リアル。」
“The reality of being fourteen.”

This stark line perfectly captures the film’s harrowing depiction of adolescence, bullying, isolation, depression, and the loss of innocence. The cryptic text running down the left side echoes the film’s online chat logs and the Lilyphilia bulletin-board world, representing the digital refuge where the characters search for connection through music and the invisible “Ether.”

Printed for the original Japanese domestic theatrical release in 2001, this poster is now a highly desirable piece for collectors of contemporary Japanese cinema, Shunji Iwai, and cult film memorabilia.

It is over 24 years old!

This poster is in excellent condition. Please refer carefully to the imagery, showing both the front and back, as this is the exact poster that is for sale.
