Shinjuku Ryōzanpaku — Kaze no Hokori 「風のほこり」 (Dust of the Wind) — Shibai‑Toride: Mantenboshi‑hen 「芝居砦・満天星篇」
Written by Jūrō Kara (唐十郎) | Directed by Kim Su‑jin (金守珍) | Poster art: Aquirax Uno (宇野亞喜良)Art Direction | Shinichi FukudaDesign
Original B2 theatre poster | 2010 (printed for 2011 performances) | Offset lithograph | Approx. 51 × 73 cm
Shinjuku Ryōzanpaku—heir to Japan’s angura lineage—staged Kara’s time‑slipping drama Kaze no Hokori in January 2011 at its home base Shibai‑Toride: Mantenboshi (Theatre Fort “Mantenboshi”). The troupe’s iconoclastic productions frequently collaborate with master illustrator Aquirax Uno, a towering figure of post‑war Japanese graphics.

This B2 sheet is a scarce Ryōzanpaku poster for Kaze no Hokori. Uno’s “Aquirax” signature appears in the image (by the figure’s calf). Credits read along the bottom margin: Art Direction Aquirax Uno / Design Shinichi Fukuda / Printed in Japan, 2010. Uno’s theatre graphics are widely collected and exhibited.

Design & typography
Cabaret‑noir tableau. A bow‑hatted showgirl in polka‑dot leotard and stockings strides past a watery pool, while a monocled gent brandishes twin glass eyes; at upper right a framed ENOKEN portrait winks to 1930s revue culture. Uno’s wiry pen lines and powdery washes sit on a warm kraft ground.
Title block. The play title 「風のほこり」 is set vertically in bold geometric glyphs; at its shoulder runs 「芝居砦・満天星篇」 (“Theatre Fort — Mantenboshi Chapter”).
House masthead & colophon. Right margin lists Shinjuku Ryōzanpaku 第44回公演; lower right bears the troupe’s seal and dragon emblem alongside ticket terms. Lower edge includes the production credits noted above.

Context: theatre posters as art
Like earlier angura sheets, Ryōzanpaku posters were printed in small runs to paste in the neighbourhood and sell at the venue—few survive. Uno’s collaborations with experimental troupes are now prized as autonomous graphic artworks.

Condition
Excellent example with rich, even inks and clean surface.
