Manga background

Ashita no Joe, written by Asao Takamori, the pen name of Ikki Kajiwara, and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba, was serialised in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1968 to 1973. It follows Joe Yabuki, a troubled young drifter whose encounter with boxing trainer Danpei Tange sets him on a demanding path through the boxing world.

Combining sporting ambition with themes of rivalry, sacrifice, hardship, and personal purpose, the series became a landmark of Japanese manga and inspired animated television and film adaptations. 

Poster design
