"Back to the Future Part II" (バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー PART2), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1989, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O482
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1989 for Robert Zemeckis’s Back to the Future Part II, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, produced by Steven Spielberg. Japan opened the sequel for the year-end season, with ad copy across the top proclaiming how this “future” phenomenon was taking the world by storm.
Design
The definitive Drew Struzan key art—Marty and Doc checking their watches beside the gull-wing DeLorean, lightning igniting the tarmac—rendered here with bold Japanese typography. The massive red-to-amber title 「バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー PART2」 sweeps across the lower field with an arrow motif, while a vertical side tagline promises mind-bending scale and plot twists. Struzan’s signature is visible in the art at lower right; the composition’s neon blues, chrome highlights, and time-arc lightning make it one of the most recognizable one-sheets of the late ’80s.
Cult status / film notes
Zemeckis’s middle chapter pushed mainstream sci-fi spectacle forward with ambitious interlocking timelines, motion-control VFX, and that unforgettable 2015 vision of hoverboards and self-lacing Nikes. Japanese first-issue materials with the Struzan artwork remain evergreen with both BTTF and classic-Hollywood poster collectors.
