“Barry Lyndon” (バリー・リンドン), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1975, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) ZA523

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster for Barry Lyndon, Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 historical epic adapted from William Makepeace Thackeray’s novel. The film stars Ryan O’Neal as Irish adventurer Redmond Barry, with Marisa Berenson, Patrick Magee and Hardy Krüger in support, and is renowned for its painterly visuals, including candlelit scenes shot with specially modified lenses that won John Alcott the Oscar for Best Cinematography.

Film background
Told in chapters with wry narration, the film follows Barry’s rise from hot‑headed rural youth to soldier, gambler, seducer and finally titled nobleman after his calculated marriage to the wealthy Lady Lyndon. As Barry’s ambition, vanity and reckless spending alienate those around him, his fortunes unravel through duels, war and family tragedy. Initially divisive, the film has since been re‑evaluated as one of Kubrick’s greatest achievements, a cool yet deeply affecting meditation on class, fate and time.

Poster design
The Japanese B2 presents the film as a lush period romance. At its centre, an intimate close‑up of Barry and Lady Lyndon locked in a kiss dominates the composition, framed by misty white edges that blend into smaller vignettes from the film: red‑coated soldiers marching in formation, elegant ballroom scenes, swan‑filled lakes and horse‑drawn carriages. The logo for Barry Lyndon appears in the upper right, while the Japanese title 「バリー・リンドン」 in deep blue script anchors the middle, floating above a montage of duels, embraces and pastoral landscapes. The rounded white border corners give the whole poster a refined, almost lobby‑card feel.
