"Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell" (吸血鬼ゴケミドロ), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1968, STB Size (51 x 145 cm) Q103
An original first-release Japanese STB / tatekan poster for Hajime Satō’s cult science-fiction horror film Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell (吸血鬼ゴケミドロ), issued in 1968 for the film’s original theatrical release in Japan.
This is a superb and highly unusual Japanese design, and an exceptionally scarce format. STB tatekan posters were produced in far smaller numbers than standard B2 posters, intended for cinema display and generally discarded after use. As a result, surviving originals are rare; for a cult title such as this, they are especially difficult to find.
Produced by Shochiku and starring Teruo Yoshida, Tomomi Satō, Hideo Kō, Kathy Horan, Eizō Kitamura, and Masaya Takahashi, the film has become one of the most admired Japanese genre pictures of the late 1960s. Its plot—centred on the survivors of a plane crash who are stalked by a parasitic alien force—combines science fiction, horror, and apocalyptic social commentary in a way that feels both extreme and unmistakably of its moment. The picture is especially noted for its bleak anti-war mood, its unsettling vampire imagery, and its hallucinatory visual style.
The poster design is outstanding. The composition uses torn-paper effects, stark photographic montage, and huge acid-yellow title lettering against a near-black ground, with shocking flashes of crimson and flesh tones. The snarling alien-vampire face in the lower section is one of the most memorable images in Japanese horror poster design. It is a visually arresting piece and one of the best surviving paper formats for the film.
Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Please review the photos—they show the exact poster for sale.
Complete and unrestored, with strong colour and excellent overall display presence. There is a tiny bit of old tape (visible in the images) as the poster was previously displayed. The lower white credit section shows some wrinkling and age-related handling marks, and the reverse shows normal toning and wear consistent with age and original cinema use. Overall, it presents very well for a rare 1968 STB poster.

STB / Tatekan posters are the tall Japanese cinema signboard format, measuring approximately 51 × 145 cm. Produced in much smaller quantities than standard release posters, they are among the rarest and most desirable formats in Japanese film poster collecting.
A striking and increasingly collectible original poster for one of Japanese cult cinema’s most distinctive horror films. It is over 58 years old!
