“Beverly Hills Cop II” / 「ビバリーヒルズ・コップ2」, Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA950

Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the first Japanese release of Beverly Hills Cop II / 「ビバリーヒルズ・コップ2」, the blockbuster action-comedy sequel starring Eddie Murphy as Detective Axel Foley.

Released at the height of Murphy’s global box-office dominance, Beverly Hills Cop II reunited Axel Foley with the Beverly Hills police team for another fast-moving mix of comedy, action, and 1980s studio spectacle.

Film background
Directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, Beverly Hills Cop II follows Detroit detective Axel Foley as he returns to California after a friend is seriously wounded. Teaming again with Billy Rosewood and John Taggart, Axel investigates a series of high-profile robberies known as the Alphabet Crimes.

The film stars Eddie Murphy, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, and Brigitte Nielsen, with music by Harold Faltermeyer. It became one of the major commercial hits of 1987, admired for its sleek Tony Scott visual style, energetic action sequences, and Murphy’s charismatic comic performance.

Poster design
The Japanese poster presents one of the most recognisable campaign images for the film. Eddie Murphy stands casually in front of the Beverly Hills shield sign, wearing Axel Foley’s Detroit-style varsity jacket, jeans, and sneakers, with a handgun held at his side. Behind him, a saturated orange California sunset and rows of silhouetted palm trees immediately establish the Beverly Hills setting.

The vertical Japanese copy at upper left reads:

「あのうわさのアクセル刑事が帰ってきた!またまたヒートするビバリーヒルズ!!」
“That famous Detective Axel is back! Beverly Hills heats up once again!!”

The lower section features Eddie Murphy’s name in bold red katakana, above the large Japanese title 「ビバリーヒルズ・コップ2」 in dynamic white, red, and orange lettering. The original English Beverly Hills Cop II logo appears beneath the Japanese title, with the production credits and UIP distribution details along the bottom.

The overall design is bright, confident, and unmistakably late-1980s, perfectly capturing the film’s blend of comedy, action, and Hollywood star power.
