This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the Japanese release of Blue Streak / 「ブルー・ストリーク」, Les Mayfield’s 1999 police action-comedy starring Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson, and Dave Chappelle.

The film’s central joke—a professional thief forced to impersonate a detective inside the police station where he concealed a stolen diamond—is captured through an energetic Japanese campaign design filled with police vehicles, city lights, and bold typography.

Film background

The film follows Miles Logan, an accomplished jewel thief who steals a diamond valued at approximately $17 million.

Moments before his arrest, Miles hides the stone inside the ventilation system of a building under construction. After serving two years in prison, he returns to recover it, only to discover that the unfinished building has become an operational Los Angeles police precinct.

To gain access, Miles invents the identity of Detective Malone, supposedly a newly transferred officer. His detailed knowledge of criminal behaviour and instinctive understanding of police investigations make him appear unexpectedly competent.

Miles is soon partnered with the earnest but inexperienced Detective Carlson, and his attempt to retrieve the diamond develops into an increasingly complicated mixture of undercover deception, police work, and criminal pursuit.

The film was directed by Les Mayfield, from a screenplay by Michael Berry, John Blumenthal, and Steve Carpenter, with music composed by Edward Shearmur.

Condition

Excellent condition. A highly attractive example retaining deep black tones, vivid police-light colour, sharp photographic detail, clean typography, and excellent overall display impact.

There are only light signs of age and handling consistent with an original Japanese theatrical poster from this period.
