“Body Heat” / 「白いドレスの女」, Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA657

Sale price $150.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1981 for the first Japanese release of Body Heat, Lawrence Kasdan’s celebrated neo-noir erotic thriller. Released in Japan under the title 「白いドレスの女」 (Shiroi Doresu no Onna / “The Woman in the White Dress”), this poster is a superb and highly atmospheric example of early-1980s Japanese film advertising.

Widely regarded as one of the defining neo-noirs of its era, Body Heat is admired for its sultry atmosphere, sharp screenplay, and the breakout performance of Kathleen Turner. This Japanese poster captures the film’s central tension perfectly: desire, danger, deception, and murder, all compressed into one elegant and menacing image.

Film background
Written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan, Body Heat stars William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, and Richard Crenna. Set in the oppressive heat of Florida, the film follows a small-town lawyer who becomes involved in a dangerous affair with a seductive married woman, only to find himself drawn into a plot of manipulation, betrayal, and murder.

The film is a modern reworking of the classic American noir tradition, echoing works such as Double Indemnity while updating the genre for the early 1980s. Its humid atmosphere, moral ambiguity, and fatalistic erotic charge helped establish Body Heat as a landmark in post-1970s American thriller cinema.

Poster design
The poster is as stylish and dangerous as the film itself. The central image shows William Hurt leaning over Kathleen Turner, who reclines in a white slip. Hurt’s hand hangs over the edge of the bed holding a revolver, a single visual detail that immediately transforms the romantic image into one of threat and betrayal.

Above the main image, a narrow night-time vignette shows car headlights cutting through darkness and rain, with a solitary figure in a white dress standing at the far right. This top section gives the poster a classic noir atmosphere: night, rain, headlights, and fatal mystery.

The Japanese tagline across the top reads:

「激しく熱い情事—それは悪女がしかけた甘い罠!」
“An intensely burning love affair — a sweet trap laid by a wicked woman!”

At the bottom, the Japanese title 「白いドレスの女」 is rendered in bold, elegant calligraphy, with black and red lettering divided by a thin horizontal line. The lower credits identify William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Richard Crenna, and Lawrence Kasdan, alongside The Ladd Company and Warner Bros. release information.

The overall design is restrained, sensual, and extremely effective: a classic Japanese neo-noir poster built around seduction, shadow, and fatal consequence.
