This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1987 for the revival release of Jean-Luc Godard’s New Wave landmark Breathless (1960), starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg. The 1987 campaign reintroduced Godard’s jump-cut, street-shot revolution to new Japanese audiences.
Design
Cool monochrome with pop color accents: the famous Champs-Élysées stroll of Belmondo and Seberg fills the upper half in black-and-white, while oversized kana blocks—hot pink and aqua—spell the Japanese title 「勝手にしやがれ」 down the sheet. A hand-script “à bout de souffle” note sits at left, with minimalist credits below—elegant, graphic, pure Nouvelle Vague.
