"Buffalo ’66", Original First-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1998, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) M155
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1998 for the first theatrical release of Buffalo ’66 in Japan.
Vincent Gallo’s cult debut follows ex-con Billy Brown (Gallo) who kidnaps tap-dancer Layla (Christina Ricci) and forces her to pose as his wife during a disastrous homecoming in Buffalo, New York. Shot in desaturated 16 mm and set to an eclectic prog-rock soundtrack, the film became a Sundance favourite and a touchstone of late-’90s American indie cinema.
The Japanese campaign mirrors the film’s lo-fi aesthetic: a grainy close-up of Gallo and Ricci fills the sheet, while the vertical tagline reads:
「最悪の俺に、とびっきりの天使がやってきた」
“Into the worst of my life came an absolute angel.”
Bold ivory Helvetica for Buffalo ’66 anchors the lower half against a muted taupe background.
It is over 26 years old!
