This is an original 1975 in-store advertisement poster for the annual Toei Star Calendar (定価 ￥850). Printed on glossy stock in the tall banner format, it was hung at cinema kiosks and book-shops to promote the sale of the studio’s wall calendar.
A commanding, full-length photograph of yakuza-icon Bunta Sugawara (in dark suit, patterned shirt and crimson pocket square) stands against a sunset-orange sky fading to indigo; the five-storey pagoda silhouette anchors the lower right, linking Toei’s contemporary crime hits to classical Japan.
