“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (明日に向って撃て!), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1970 (film 1969), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) J41
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the first Japanese cinema release of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (released in Japan as 明日に向って撃て!). The film first opened in Japan on 21 February 1970.
Directed by George Roy Hill and starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katharine Ross, this iconic late-’60s American western follows two real-life outlaws as the West closes in around them—mixing wit, melancholy, and myth-making into one of the era’s defining classics. The film famously won Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards (among its multiple wins) and remains celebrated for its final act and enduring cultural impact.
Poster design
A superb, classic Japanese campaign image featuring the trio in intense close-up—Ross at left, Redford centred, Newman at right—set above dynamic action vignettes (gunplay and the escape run), with the bold red Japanese title 明日に向って撃て! dominating the lower half. The top copy sells it as the legendary “Butch & Sundance” train-robbery story, and the overall colour palette and composition make this an exceptionally strong display piece once framed.
It is over 55 years old!
