This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1979 for Herbert Ross’s ensemble comedy California Suite (1978), adapted by Neil Simon from his hit stage play. A Beverly Hills Hotel weekend becomes a carousel of misadventures for A-list pairings: Maggie Smith & Michael Caine, Alan Alda & Jane Fonda, Walter Matthau & Elaine May, and comedy legends Bill Cosby & Richard Pryor.

Design
Playful, illustration-led campaign: caricature portraits of the starry ensemble cluster around an oversized leather suitcase, with copy blocks picked out in white on the case front. A soft blue field and rounded maroon border frame the art, while the large red-to-orange Japanese title 「カリフォルニア・スイート」 sweeps across the lower band above the neat English logotype CALIFORNIA SUITE and Columbia marks—a bright, unmistakably late-’70s look.
