"Cat People" (キャット・ピープル), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA186
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1982 for Paul Schrader’s stylish, erotic reimagining of Cat People, starring Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell, with score by Giorgio Moroder and the iconic title song by David Bowie (“Cat People (Putting Out Fire)”). A sensuous New Orleans-set tale of desire, shapeshifting, and fatal inheritance, it became a cult landmark of early-’80s horror.
Design
Hypnotic and dangerous: Kinski’s face fills the frame, rain-streaked and backlit in molten orange, a thin line of blood at her lip and predatory green eyes burning through the darkness. Above, the slashed script Cat People with a stalking panther emblem cuts across a cool grey field; below, the bold red katakana title 「キャット・ピープル」 grounds the composition. Minimal text, maximum atmosphere.
