Sale price $110.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 2003 first Japanese release of Catch Me If You Can, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

Produced in 2002, the film opened in Japan on 21 March 2003, distributed by UIP. This striking Japanese release design captures its central pursuit through blurred running figures, generous white space and bold blue directional arrows.

Film background

Written by Jeff Nathanson, Catch Me If You Can adapts the autobiographical account of Frank W. Abagnale Jr., presenting a stylish crime caper set largely in the 1960s.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Frank, a young con artist who assumes identities as an airline pilot, doctor and lawyer while passing fraudulent cheques. Tom Hanks plays Carl Hanratty, the persistent FBI agent determined to catch him.

Their pursuit gradually develops into an unusual relationship, giving the film an emotional dimension beneath its disguises, escapes and elaborate deceptions.

Christopher Walken plays Frank’s father, whose relationship with his son provides an important foundation for the story. The supporting cast also includes Martin Sheen, Nathalie Baye and Amy Adams, with music by John Williams.

The combination of period styling, humour and melancholy makes the film a distinctive entry in Spielberg’s filmography.

Poster design

The composition presents DiCaprio running towards the left edge in an airline pilot’s uniform, with Hanks pursuing him from the right in a dark suit and hat.

Both figures are deliberately blurred to suggest speed. Their movement across the pale background immediately communicates the film’s chase premise, while the large area of open space between them reinforces the distance separating pursuer and pursued.

Across the top, the stars’ names appear in contrasting shades of blue:

「ディカプリオ」 「ハンクス」

“DiCaprio” — “Hanks.”

Near the lower section, the Japanese campaign slogan reads:

「本物の偽者を描いた真実のドラマ。」

“A true-life drama about a genuine impostor.”

This wording preserves the original campaign’s playful emphasis on deception and the story’s autobiographical origins.

Beneath it, two overlapping left-pointing arrows in contrasting blues carry the English title:

“catch me if you can”

Their direction echoes the running figures above, connecting the title treatment directly to the action. The Japanese title appears beneath the arrows, followed by the detailed billing block.

Spielberg’s name, UIP distribution information, DreamWorks and Amblin branding, together with the original Japanese distributor’s website, complete the lower margin.

The result is a crisp, energetic design with strong appeal for collectors of Steven Spielberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and Japanese theatrical advertising.
