“Christiane F.” (クリスチーネ・F), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1981, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O5
This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1981 for the first theatrical release of Christiane F. (クリスチーネ・F), directed by Uli Edel and based on the true story Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo. The film stars Natja Brunckhorst in her haunting debut role, chronicling the harrowing descent of a 13-year-old Berlin teenager into heroin addiction and prostitution. David Bowie, whose music is woven throughout the film, also appears in a live performance sequence.
Printed for its initial Japanese theatrical run, this scarce original B2(半裁)is prized by collectors of European cinema, counterculture history, and David Bowie material. Now over four decades old, it remains one of the most striking international release posters of the early 1980s.
Poster design
The design captures the raw vulnerability of Christiane, with a close-up image of Natja Brunckhorst against a stark, shadowed background. The handwritten title “Christiane F.” floats at the top, while the bold yellow Japanese lettering 「クリスチーネ・F」 anchors the base alongside the tagline: “麻薬もうった からだも売った でも まだ愛は知らない。” (“She used drugs, she sold her body, but she still doesn’t know love.”). The minimalist layout emphasizes the bleakness and emotional intensity of the film.
