This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1994 for the Japanese theatrical release of Chungking Express (恋する惑星), written and directed by Wong Kar-wai.

Film background
Released in 1994, Chungking Express is one of the defining films of modern Hong Kong cinema—a two-part, city-at-night romance that captures loneliness, chance encounters, and the strange intimacy of urban life. With its kinetic editing, neon colour, and pop soundtrack energy, the film became an international cult favourite and helped establish Wong Kar-wai’s signature style, influencing everything from indie cinema to fashion and music video aesthetics.

Poster design
A superb Japanese B2 built like a collage of memory: a warm amber central field carries the bilingual title CHUNGKING / EXPRESS over the large Japanese title 「恋する惑星」, while a key image of Faye (Faye Wong) reclines on a sofa, holding an object up to the light, bathed in golden room glow. Around the edges, a border of film stills frames the story’s two halves—faces, nighttime interiors, street fragments—creating a cinematic “contact sheet” effect. The vertical Japanese copy on the sides plays up the film’s theme of near-misses and timing—“0.1 millimetre” closeness and the “6 hours later / 57 hours later” pivot points—making this a particularly characterful Japan campaign design with strong wall presence.
