"Cinema Paradiso" (ニュー・シネマ・パラダイス), Japanese Theatrical Poster “3-Hour Complete Original Version”, 1991, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O468
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued for the domestic release of Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso in its long “3-hour complete original version” (3時間完全オリジナル版). Winner of the 1989 Cannes Jury Prize and the 1990 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Tornatore’s ode to memory, first love, and the magic of the movies became a modern classic—propelled by Ennio Morricone’s beloved score.
Design
A tender collage balances nostalgia and romance: Alfredo and little Toto on the bicycle anchor the left column while an intimate close-up of teenage lovers fills the right—two strands of the film’s life-spanning narrative. Elegant art-deco title lettering “NUOVO CINEMA Paradiso” sits high center; bold red katakana 「ニュー・シネマ・パラダイス」 grounds the Japanese campaign. Award call-outs and Tornatore’s printed statement (facsimile signature) signal the prestige re-release.
Cult status / film notes
A touchstone of late-20th-century European cinema, the film revived interest in Italian melodrama and became a perennial repertory favorite. Morricone’s theme is now concert-hall repertoire; worldwide, the poster art symbolizes cinephile nostalgia.
